Barbara Ann Hatt
Sept. 29, 1961-March 21, 2023
Redwood City, CA, California

Barbara Ann Hatt was a Bay Area native, born at Palo Alto Hospital on September 29, 1961, to Kendrick Appleby Hatt, Jr. and Vivian Marie Hatt of Mountain View, CA. As the second to last of six children, she was born incorrigibly industrious and tenacious.

She was a portrait of a free and adventurous spirit with many appetites and unspoken aptitudes. In the margins of attending Monta Loma Elementary and Crittenden Middle School, at the age of twelve, she cut her teeth on the working week, starting her job as the first girl to work the paper route in her hometown. As an early teen, she worked at Redwood Villa Retirement home, followed by See's Candy, and later as a telephone operator at Pacific Bell. Barbara took leisure with Dad and the boys on hunting, camping, and fishing trips. As a skilled seamstress at a young age, by High School, she could design and execute a new dress in a single day. She graduated from Mountain View High School in 1979.

Fate was met when Barbara was introduced to her brother Tom's roommate, Douglas Whitmer, whom she married after some years in 1984, and in 1988 gave birth to their only daughter together, Lana Elizabeth Whitmer. In 2000, she gave birth to her second daughter Casey Ann Cowern.

Of her own intelligence, Barbara began working in Accounting in the '80s. She worked for Bloom Energy over the past 12 years, with many more years to give.

As a straight shooter, Barbara didn't mince words. She lived by the day and operated on whims while wearing her heart on her sleeve. She was a reality TV buff, a rock'n'roll diva, and a Jeopardy extraordinaire. She was known for her hospitable nature and, on Sunday evenings, served homemade banquets portioned for food-eating contestants, usually with a 49ers, Patriots, Red Sox, or Giants game playing. Barbara was known for positivity and sharpness and was never envious. She was a proud mother and loved to be called a "young Grandma."

Survived by her brothers David, Steve (Debbie), and Tom Hatt; her sister Linda Thomas; her two daughters, Casey Osorio (Alexis) and Lana (Matt) Henthorn; her grandchildren Penelope and Desmond Henthorn; and her beloved 5 nieces. Her life was a living testimony of love and laughter.
