Douglas R. Monica
Nov. 24, 1950-Aug. 22, 2020
East Palo Alto, California
Douglas (Doug) Monica passed away peacefully on Saturday August 22, 2020. Doug was a husband, a father, and a grandfather.
He retired from Stanford University after serving students at the Law School and School of Medicine for more than 25 years.
Doug was a lifelong political activist who from a young age devoted his life to fighting for social justice, from opposing the Vietnam War to supporting Black Lives Matter, as well as local community issues.
Doug loved reading and discussing all subjects, especially history. He loved nothing more than relaxing with a good detective novel and playing with his dogs, Che and Reina. But he looked forward to nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He will be missed terribly by his family, friends, colleagues and comrades. He is survived by his wife Jill, son Carlos (Vicky), grandchildren, Carlos Jr., Kiana, and Emiliano, Step-daughter, Zoe, brothers Stefan (Martha) and Jeff (Lyn), sisters, Dina (Tony) and Lisa (Louie), and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Dorothy and George Monica, and brother Martin (Emma).
