John Charles Loustaunou
Oct. 15, 1938-June 3, 2012
Menlo Park, California
Jack Loustaunou passed away peacefully among loved ones Sunday, June 3, at his home in Menlo Park at the age of 73. A beloved member of the mid-peninsula community, Jack was an avid traveler and also spent much of his time in Paris and Argentiere, France and New York, NY.
Born in 1938 in Los Angeles, Jack earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics at USC and served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant in the Supply Corps off the coast of France in the Mediterranean.
He later earned an MBA at Harvard University, and had a successful career in finance at Hewlett Packard, Kleiner & Perkins and Tandem Computers, where he was a Co-Founder. Jack retired in 1980 to enjoy life and welcome the birth of his daughter.
Jack's commitment to our community was demonstrated by his extensive charity work, both as Founder of the Portola Valley Schools Foundation and as a supporter of the art, computer, library and reading programs at Fair Oaks Elementary School in Redwood City. He also taught typing and video production courses at Ormondale and Corte Madera schools.
Jack had many passions, including art, Broadway shows, opera, gardening, hiking, skiing, photography, bridge and tennis. He also loved to travel the world, having visited all seven continents with family and friends.
He will be remembered for his joie de vivre, which he often channeled into planning fabulous parties for milestones big and small. Jack is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Janet, his daughter, Marie, his son-in-law, Dominic, his sister, Marilyn and thousands upon thousands of photos and videos.
An informal gathering to celebrate Jack's life will be held atop Windy Hill in Portola Valley on Sunday, July 29, 2012, around 1 pm. If you would like to hike up, please park at Corte Madera Middle School and meet at the corner of Alpine Road and Willowbrook Drive at noon. Carpooling is highly encouraged!! And kindly bring your own picnic lunch.
