John Henry Ullman, 76, developer of the first Human Sexuality Program at UCSF, died Feb. 4, 2007, in Palo Alto of natural causes.
He was born on June 12, 1930, in Nuremburg, Germany. He escaped from the Nazis just months before World War II began. His family sought refuge in Sweden and moved to San Francisco when he was 9 years old.
He grew up in San Francisco and lived in Portola Valley for many years. He subsequently moved to and lived in Palo Alto. He assisted in writing the book "Male Sexuality" by Bernie Zilbergeld. He also worked as a manufacturer's representative for home furnishings, continuing a business started by his father.
People who knew him say that he loved great food, great jokes and great people. He enjoyed playing the piano, excelled at Bridge, and was an avid supporter of the San Francisco Symphony.
He is survived by his son, Steven Ullman of Venice, Calif.; daughter, Sharon Ullman-Ford of San Carlos, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Jane Ullman of Venice, Calif.; son-in-law, Robert Ford of San Carlos, Calif.; a sister, Ruth Pohlman of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; and two granddaughters. He was predeceased by his wife, Sondra.
