John (Jack) Hayden Byrne
July 6, 1922-Aug. 1, 2014
Portola Valley, California

Jack Byrne passed away peacefully at the age of 92 after a long and rich life filled with family and friends.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years Mary Alice Byrne, children John Martin Byrne (Donna), William Mark Byrne (Terri) and Bernadette Byrne, his nieces Patricia Byrne, Kathy Byrne, Regina Porter, nephew Courtney Porter Jr. and adored grandchildren Shannon, Brandon, Nicholas, and Katie Byrne.

Jack is preceded in death by his brother William C. Byrne (Bill) and sister in-law Heather Byrne.

A native San Franciscan, Jack graduated from St. Ignatius and went on to study at USF. His legacy is one of the family business, Byrne?s Fine Foods. He worked alongside his father William C. Byrne and brother Bill at O?Connor?s Market on Divisadero Street in the 1930s, which became Byrne?s Fine Foods.

Together with his brother, and later also with his sons, John and Will, Byrne?s Fine Foods was a San Francisco grocery institution for over 44 years.

After many years summering at "Lake View Lodge" on Old La Honda Road in Woodside, Jack and his family moved to Portola Valley in 1973.

An amazing carpenter, Jack created a beautiful home for family and friends to gather. His happiest moments were with family, and he was immensely proud of all his children and grandchildren.
