John "Jack" Schutz
Feb. 2, 1927-March 2, 2013
Woodside, California
Jack Schutz passed peacefully at home after a heroic battle with cancer. Surrounded by family, he kept his incredible sense of humor until the end.
Jack was born in Hebron, Nebraska. When he was 5, his family moved to Canby, Oregon. Jack lived there until he enlisted in the Navy, reporting for duty on his 18th birthday.
Following his military service, Jack graduated from the University of Portland. Soon after, he traveled to California, stopping in a little town called Woodside -- the town he never left. Jack became the well-loved restaurateur of The Village Pub. You could always find Jack?s welcoming smile behind the bar or hear him sharing jokes and stories with guests at their tables.
Jack was a charter member of Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club, where he loved to play golf and dominoes with his buddies. Spending time with family, friends, and traveling is what brought him the most joy. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Lottie Schutz, and his four cherished sisters. He was a devoted, loving husband for 40 years to the late Norma Oswald. He was an amazing father to Carolyn Schutz, Janet Schutz, and Julie Luttringer, son-in-law Collin and grandfather to Katie and Jack. He was a loving partner to Linda ?Sam? O?Sullivan, and we are grateful for the happiness and care she brought Dad in his final years.
A ?Celebration of Life? memorial Mass will be held Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 1:30pm at St. Pius Church, 1100 Woodside Road, Redwood City.
In lieu of flowers, please honor his memory by sending donations to a charity of your choice.
