Laura Pool Huber
Dec. 24, 1967-Nov. 10, 2015
Menlo Park, California

Laura Pool Huber, of Menlo Park, died peacefully at her home on Nov. 10 from complications from advanced cancer. She was 47.

Laura Spruance Pool was born on Dec. 24, 1967, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Growing up, she attended Shady Side Academy, where she was salutatorian of her class, and made her society debut at the Cinderella Ball, the oldest charity event in Pittsburgh.

She attended college at Colgate University in New York, graduating cum laude in 1990 with a degree in English literature. She also excelled in fine arts. After college, she moved to San Francisco to pursue a career in graphic design. She worked at Miller-Freeman as an award-winning designer and art director of several magazines.

In 2000, she married Jeff Huber, an executive at Google Inc. The couple moved to Menlo Park where they had two children.

Laura's friends and family said her magnetic smile and positive spirit served her well in her valiant battle with cancer.

Her love for her family was evident in everything she did, from helping her children connect with friends, cooking delicious food and keeping a warm, inviting home.

As her children grew up, Laura was a ubiquitous volunteer in her children's schools: Oak Knoll Elementary, Hillview Middle School and The Girls' Middle School in Palo Alto. At Oak Knoll, she organized the after-school sports program and chaired many volunteer committees.

Outside of home and school, Laura's work in the community included the University Club of Palo Alto's Scholarship program and service as volunteer coordinator for the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Circle-of-Friends ambassadors.

Laura was a gifted artist and a talented chef. An avid tennis player, she competed in the Women's USTA league team of the University Club of Palo Alto.

She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Jeff Huber, of Menlo Park; her son, Max (14); her daughter, Grace (12); her parents, Linda B. Pool and Henry S. Pool of Pittsburgh; her sister, Heather Pool; and her brother, Russell Pool.
