Lois Maxine Shore
Sept. 24, 1945-Jan. 25, 2025
Palo Alto, California
Lois Maxine Karp Shore, age 79, passed away unexpectedly on January 25, 2025, due to cardiac arrest. Daughter of Wilfred G. and Helen R. Karp, Lois is survived by her loving daughters, Valerie and Allison, brother Steven, son-in-law Tien, her husband, Ronald, and her two beloved grand doggies, Luigi and Yoshi. Lois leaves behind a legacy of kindness, passion, and an unwavering zest for life.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Lois spent her early 20s living in New York City and teaching in Harlem, an experience that shaped her deep love for the city and its culture. She later moved with her family to California, where she became an integral part of the Palo Alto community. For many decades, Lois worked as a cherished special education aide with the Palo Alto Unified School District, where her patience, empathy, and commitment to the students she worked with made a lasting impact on all who knew her.
When Lois worked as an aide, she was a constant, reassuring presence for many children. One of her former students, who attended Escondido Elementary School around 2000, fondly recalls how Lois kept tabs on them when they were in fourth grade. They shared, "She was such a constant presence that everyone knew her, and you could always count on her being around. It was reassuring. And when I talk with my best friend from those days, Lois always stands out in our old memories and stories.”
Lois had many passions that enriched her life. She was an avid photographer, capturing the beauty of the world around her. She found joy in animals, gardening, antiques and collectibles, classic films, and modern art and architecture. A lover of music and dancing, Lois could often be found singing at the top of her lungs in the car. The Palo Alto Baylands held a special place in her heart, and she found peace and inspiration in its natural beauty.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Lois’s honor on Sunday, March 9, 2025, from 1-4 p.m. in the El Palo Alto Room of the Mitchell Park Community Center. All are welcome to join in remembering Lois and sharing stories of her warmth and vibrant spirit.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lois’s memory may be made to The Asher House Dog Rescue or Steve Jenkins/Operation Angels, organizations that reflect her deep love for animals and her commitment to making a difference
Lois is dearly missed. Her spirit and energy will continue to inspire all who knew her.
