Marie Therese Arnold
July 10, 1926-Feb. 15, 2020
PORTOLA VALLEY, CA

Ladera (Portola Valley) Marie Therese Arnold was born on July 10, 1926, in Boston, Massachusetts to Arthur Ward Lynch (Boston) and Katherine Cunneen (Ireland). She returned to her Heavenly Father on February 15, 2020, and was surrounded by her family at The Sequoias in Portola Valley. Her final days were filled with love and support from her family and Mission Hospice. Marie attended Lesley College in Boston where she met her husband, E. Allen Arnold at nearby Harvard College. The Arnolds moved from Portland, Oregon to Ladera in 1955. She worked for Stanford Linear Accelerator for over twenty years in Benefits Administration. Marie was an energetic person who enjoyed entertaining and hosting neighborhood gatherings. She held an annual 4th of July party and Christmas holiday parties for her close friends and family. Her interests included gardening, cooking, sewing and she was an avid tennis player at The Alpine Hills Tennis and Swimming Club. Marie was a volunteer in the Allied Arts kitchen, Filoli, and the Children’s Hospital at Stanford. She was also a member of the Los Altos Garden Club. Marie was a private person but once her friend, you were treasured and respected for a lifetime. She never lost her Boston accent and was proud to “cultivate” it! Descended from Irish parents, she imparted discipline, her heritage, and faith to her children. Family was paramount and she made sure that we all stay connected even in her final days. We were fortunate to have Father O’Dell of Our Lady of The Wayside and St. Denis parish visit her twice for the Anointing of the Sick. Her ashes will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in Menlo Park. She is predeceased by her son Eugene Arthur Arnold and her former husband. She is survived by her daughter Sarah A. Arnold, son-in-law, Peter K. Young, grandchildren Alexandra and Madeline Phipps and great-granddaughter, Kennedy Eason.
