Mary Carter Fought

Mary Delta Carter Fought, 84, died October 20th 2014, surrounded by loved ones at her home of 54 years in Sky L'onda, California.

She was born March 8th, 1930, the third of four children born to Carroll and Catherine Carter in Seattle, WA, both of whom predeceased her in the mid 1950s.

Mary  was educated in the Seattle public school system and later attended San Jose State College.

On September 17th 1950, she married the love of her life, Victor Fought, with whom she raised six children, and who later predeceased her.

Mary then went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Hayward State College and a Master's Degree in Counseling from San Francisco State College.

With this background, she went on to a 24 year career as a volunteer grief counselor for Kara, a Bay Area nonprofit, bringing peace, comfort, and support to countless grief stricken individuals over the years.

Mary was very dedicated to her family, her community, her profession, the environment, and to humanity in general in so many ways. After the death of their parents, she provided lifelong advice and counseling to her younger brother until her passing.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her older brother Doug Carter, and her sister Sue Carter May.

She is survived by her children; Cathy Taylor (Frank Taylor) of Redwood City, David Fought (Stephanie Baker) of San Francisco, Vickie Fought (Ken Pesso) of Pescadero, Susie Fought of Berkeley, Julie Fought (Coale Johnson) of Lone Pine, Bruce Fought (Julie Fought) of El Granada; a brother, Joel Carter, MD. (Becky Carter) of Amelia Island, FL;  grandchildren Galen Leach of San Francisco, Michael and Camille Taylor of Redwood City, Catalina Pesso of Pescadero, and many cousins, nieces and nephews from across the country.

A celebration was held on November 9th at Mary's home, attended by family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and former clients.
