Mary Leighton Regel, 83, of Menlo Park, died Jan. 7, 2006, after a short illness.
Born in Minneapolis, Minn., she was raised in Southern California. She attended Punahou School in Hawaii and then Stanford University, where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and, in 1939, a Rose Bowl Princess.
Beginning her career in real estate in Elmhurst, Ill., she returned to California in the 1970s and joined the Cornish and Carey real-estate firm. She eventually founded her own company, Regel Properties, for which she worked until her retirement in the late 1990s.
During her career, she worked as a real-estate broker, certified residential specialist, and licensed appraiser. Her greatest joy was assisting clients purchase the home of their dreams, and she received thank you notes and cards up until her death from many previous clients.
She took part in many civic activities and was a member of the Peninsula Volunteers. She was also a member of the Money Bags investment group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Regel. She is survived by her sons, James Regel and David Mack, both of Menlo Park, Steven Mack of Villa Park, Ill., and Jeffrey Mack of Tuscon, Ariz.; daughters, Susan Westen of Atlanta, Ga., Joyce Regel of Sacramento, and Candace Regel of San Diego; and three grandchildren.
