Matthew Carl Ragno passed away unexpectedly on September 5, 2026, in Modesto, California, at the age of 75. He was surrounded by his family and his beloved dog, Britt.

Matt was born in 1951 in Palo Alto, California. He spent many years as the owner of John’s Liquors in Portola Valley, which he operated alongside his brother.

Matt enjoyed the simple things that brought him happiness—walking Britt on the beach, spending time with friends at the duck club, and enjoying the company of those around him. He was an active member of the Italian-American Social Club in Menlo Park, where his competitive spirit earned him the title of Bocce Ball Tournament Champion two years in a row.

An avid outdoorsman, Matt was also actively involved with California Waterfowl Association and Ducks Unlimited. His love of the outdoors, his friendships, and the time he spent with family were an important part of his life.

Matt is survived by his daughter, Kirsten Poole; his son, Jason Ragno; his two grandchildren; and his four brothers. He will be deeply missed by his family, his many friends, and all those whose lives he touched over his 75 years.

A celebration of Matt’s life will be held at the Italian-American Social Club in Menlo Park CA on October 3, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate a life well lived.
