Matthew John Ludeman
Feb. 4, 1963-May 15, 2025
Palo Alto, California

Matt was born in Palo Alto and grew up there. He graduated from Gunn High School and U.C. Davis and attended U.C.S.F. where he received his Ph.D. in Bio-Medical Science. He enjoyed his career and his colleagues in DNA research and traveled to several countries, including China, Japan and Germany for his work. He never used animals while earning his Ph.D. or during his career, as he loved them. Matt greatly enjoyed time spent with family and friends, traveling, Peanuts, Giants games, drawing, and music, as well as reading ancient Greek philosophy and authors the likes of Tolstoy, Arthur Miller and Shakespeare. He loved Golden Gate Park and many years of living in San Francisco.

He had an unusually close, loving bond with his older brother, Rick, from the time they were very young. Later, when Rick’s sons, Sean and Ben, were born he was like a second father, whom they adored.

Matt will be remembered for his wit, spirit, sense of humor, generosity, intelligence, kindness, compassion, and great courage. The family and friends who loved and admired him miss him terribly. The world is a poorer place for his loss.

He is survived by his mother M.C. Carroll of Palo Alto, his father, F.R. Ludeman of Granite Bay, his brother, Richard, of Portland, Oregon and a niece and three nephews.

Contributions in his memory may be sent to Doctors w/o Borders or Kindness Ranch.
