Robert Hugh Francis Lloyd, Engineer, Entrepreneur and Loving Father, died at the age of 88 on November 21, 2022, surrounded by his family. Born in Burnham, England, as the youngest of 2 sets of twins among the 5 children. The family left England for the US to avoid the bombing during WWII, while his father stayed an officer in the British Army. They settled in Sudbury, MA, living on his mother’s family farm. Robert left Sudbury in 1949 to attend Mount Hermon School in western Mass., then subsequently graduated from Tufts Univ. in electrical engineering in 1957. His first job was with RCA in New Jersey and then worked for IBM Poughkeepsie, NY, France, England, and Menlo Park, CA. Robert married Dorothy Gruss in 1960. They had two sons and a daughter. Andrew, Robin, and Stephen. The family moved to Sunnyvale, CA in 1965 with IBM and then Robert started the first semiconductor memory company, AMS, in "Silicon Valley" in 1970, going public in 1972. He later ran a division of National Semiconductor for two years before starting another electronics company in 1982. In 1990, Robert started a technology transfer and consulting company in China. He was divorced and married Angela Yu in 1988. Two sons, Emile and Larry came with this marriage. Robert lived in China from 1995 to 2000 then returned to California in 2000 to become CFO of a memory systems company. Retiring to Menlo Park, he regularly played tennis and golf, as well as discussing solutions to the world’s problems with a close group of friends. Robert is predeceased by his mother Nesta Piper Lloyd, his father William Francis Lloyd, sister Margaret, and brothers Richard, John, and David. Robert is survived by his two former wives Dorothy and Angela, 3 children Andrew, Robin, and Stephen, 8 grandchildren, and the many friends of his tennis, golf, and discussion group.
