Alan David Sklar, M.D., 73, a longtime resident of Palo Alto, died Oct. 8, 2011.
Hew as born May 1, 1938, in New York, the second son of Russian and Polish Jewish immigrants.
After completing medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, he came to Palo Alto as a resident in psychiatry at the Stanford University Medical School. He remained a resident of Palo Alto except for three years of military service in Maryland and Washington, D.C.
He was a member of the Counseling and Psychotherapy Center, and taught at Stanford University as an adjunct associate professor of psychiatry.
He traveled, enjoyed festive holidays and had season tickets to many theatrical and musical productions. He enjoyed tennis, skiing, hiking and bicycling. Playing the violin was a life-long passion; he performed regularly in the Bay Area.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Alice Jane Sklar; daughters Jessica Nimoy of Agoura Hills, Calif., Emily Wexler of Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Naomi Albertson of Millbrae; and four grandchildren.
