Lasting Memories

Amberlin S. Wu
June 27, 1972-Oct. 4, 2011
Mountain View, California

Amberlin Wu passed from this world on Oct. 4, 2011.

She was born on June 27, 1972. and grew up in Los Gatos, Calif. Amberlin went to Los Gatos High School, graduated cum laude from Carleton College, and received her Master's of Art in Counseling from John F. Kennedy University, in Campbell, Calif.

She was a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) whose service to the community was profound and substantive. Her family and friends knew her as a fiercely intelligent woman who mastered difficult concepts with ease, and filtered them through her lens of love and compassion for all human beings.

Amberlin loved playing music (flute, piano and guitar), and enjoyed studying and teaching dance and choreography, including ballet, jazz, and ballroom. Amberlin was well traveled and loved her time spent abroad. She studied French in Pau, Spanish in South America, and Chinese in Shanghai. She also studied abroad in Sri Lanka during her junior year at Carlton, and taught for a year in Edmonton, Canada.

Amberlin was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) in 1995. Despite her battle with the illness, she still completed the curriculum to become a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. As her health continued to deteriorate, she dedicated her life to building a supportive community for other people battling the impact of this tragic disease. She actively maintained a support website, communicating with people all over the world to spread the newest information about CFS and the different ways people were coping with the illness. She utilized her creative abilities to raise funds for CFS through art, crafts and jewelry, and often raised the spirits of those with CFS through her poetic words.

She is survived by her devoted and loving parents Lin and Ann Wu; her brother David; sister-in-law Mona; and nieces Kaylie and Amanda.

I cannot believe that she is gone. She was such a treasure with her sweet spirit and giving heart. I only wish I had more time to get to know her better. She shared her beautiful back yard full of animals, and even called us over to see the new baby goats. My heart and prayers go out to her family for a loss that cannot be measured.

Amberlin will be constantly remembered in our house, where she designed and painted an amazing dinosaur jungle seascape beach mural for my son's bedroom. I'll miss you, Amberlin!
