Lasting Memories
Christine Roma Griner
March 5, 1927-Feb. 7, 2016
Palo Alto, California
Christine Griner, 88, died on Feb. 7, 2016. She was born in Los Angeles in 1927 and spent her early years in the Altadena foothills. She graduated from Stanford in 1948 and went on to earn a Ph.D. in sociology from Radcliffe in 1961. She left her nascent teaching career to dedicate herself to raising her two sons, returning to Palo Alto in 1979. She was a member of the Bahá'à community, volunteered at the U.N. Store and loved to take long walks at the Baylands. She leaves her two sons, Tom and Robert, as well as nieces and nephews in California and British Columbia.
We will miss Christine at our family gatherings. She was a person who loved beauty and thoughtfulness, who knew how to appreciate and treasure life. She brought grace with her, wherever she was. I am so glad our paths crossed through our children's marriage.
Things I remember and admire about Christine. Her unwavering commitment to internationalism and peace. Her independence and determination to make the best of things. Her grace and beauty. I once joked with her that she brought "class" to our family, but I really meant it and grew to truly love her.
