Palo Alto, California

Grace Elaine Light, a lifetime resident of Palo Alto, died at age 70 on Friday, August 4, of complications from a stroke. She had just retired after serving for 13 years as a teacher’s aide in the Palo Alto school system, working with children with special needs. Before that she worked for many years at Track and Field News in Mountain View. A graduate of Palo Alto High School, she also attended Foothill College. She loved animals and could remember in detail the many cats and dogs she owned over the years. Known for her giving nature, she was a longtime donor of blood to the American Red Cross.

Born in Philadelphia in 1947, she came to California with her family in 1951. She is survived by her domestic partner, George L. Greenan of Palo Alto; a brother, Skip Light of Redwood Estates, and his wife Sylvia; a sister, Cynthia Mitchell of Scotts Valley; two nieces, Katy and Kelly Mitchell; many cousins; and her beloved dog, Mocha.

One of the kindest and most generous people I have ever known. So many adventures…I will miss you always.

There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of my beloved cousin Grace. As a little boy, I looked up to her and her beautiful photographs, and later, she became the sister I always wanted, best friend, & fun pal. We both loved the same music..Beatles, Boston, & went & had fun at their concerts, together we had many breakfasts, lunches, & dinners at great holes-in-the-wall..Windy City Pizza, Chicago Pizza, Buy the Bucket (or kick the bucket as we called it when we over-ate there), we solved some family mysteries and could relate to our very similar circumstances & pets..goats, burros, cats, birds & doggies, I could always call her anytime & did, we enjoyed the beach, trips to Lake Tahoe, Santa Cruz, High School Reunions, and a couple of days before she passed, she gave me an origianl Bonanza metal cup & the Beatles 50th Anniversary Edition the the Sgt.Pepper Album with a Special Treat- she SANG it to me in her amazingly sweet feminine voice for the first & last time. Today, I visit with her in my dreams and look forward to spending so much more time with her. I love you Grace.
