Former Palo Alto resident (1965-1993) Harriet Jane Attig of Eugene, Ore., died June 12, 2012, of cancer. She was 76. A private celebration of life will be held later.
She was born May 31, 1936, in Indianapolis, Ind., to George and Cora Ewan Rinehart. She married John Attig on June 13, 1959, in Waukegan, Ill.
She graduated from Waukegan High School and earned a bachelor's degree in education from DePauw University in Indiana.
A former elementary school teacher, in Palo Alto Harriet worked as a teacher's aide and dental receptionist. For many years she was a volunteer at Stanford Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, John, a former teacher in the Palo Alto schools, most notably at Gunn High School; and two daughters, Victoria Danielson of Portland, Ore., and Laura Clemens of Austin, Texas. Both are graduates of Palo Alto High School. Other survivors include a brother, John Rinehart of Madison, Wis.; a sister, Wildred Neller of Hampton Beach, N.H.; and two grandchildren.
