Ivan Carl Odom of Menlo Park died Oct. 22 at the age of 85.
A native Californian, Mr. Odom was born in Sacramento. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a bachelor of science degree in engineering. He earned a master's degree from Stanford University.
Mr. Odom served in the Pacific with the Army Air Force as a pilot during World War II. He was a member of the Army reserves until he retired in 1983 with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
After 39 years of service, Mr. Odom retired from PG&E as Gas Systems Manager in 1988. He served on the Menlo Park Planning Commission for many years, as well as other organizations. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, and enjoyed spending time with his family, raising bonsai plants, traveling, and researching his genealogy, say family members.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters Cheryl Thompson and Laurel Johnston; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His wife of 58 years, Gaye Northrup Odom, preceded him in death in 2005.
