James Clifton Davis passed away in peace among family members after a long struggle with cancer. Jim was born in San Francisco, California to James Carl Davis and Carla Florentine Davis and was the third of four children.

The family moved to Palo Alto in 1952 where they lived an idyllic life in the suburbs. Under the tutelage of his parents who were Contract Bridge Life Masters, Jim began earnestly playing the game at age 12 reaching Life Master status at the age of 17.

After graduating from Cubberley High School in 1967, Jim attended the Monterey Jazz Festival and quickly joined the counterculture. He attended UCLA for a few years before traveling in earnest, crisscrossing America and Canada on many ventures.

Jim found his joy in becoming a jewelry craftsman, developing his specialty in Cloisonne. He and a partner crafted their wares and sold them at craft shows all across the nation for forty years. Their home base changed many times from California to New Mexico and to Florida. At their homes, Jim learned to renovate his residences and build fabulous gardens. His hands were gallant and poetic in soil or with tools.

Most notably was Jim’s gentle touch with people and animals. He was well loved and respected and his company always joyful. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.

Jim’s passing was preceded by his parents and is survived by his three siblings, Jacqueline Visher of Santa Cruz, Janet Gusman of Calistoga, and Ronald Davis of Anchorage, AK; as well as his faithful dog, Canela.
