James(Jim) Upton, 87, a resident of Atherton, died July 1, 2021. He was born Nov. 11, 1933, in Spokane, Wash. He graduated from Gonzaga University and went on to earn a Masters from Stanford University as well as a Ph.D. in Transpersonal Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology. He began teaching math at College of San Mateo and Canada College in the late 1960's and taught there for more than 40 years. He was an avid traveler and coin collector and in his spare time he enjoyed gardening. He is survived by his daughter, Heidi Sausedo; and two grandchildren.
