Jane Hall
Nov. 17, 1938-Dec. 1, 2024
Redwood City, California
Jane Watrous Hall, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024. Born on November 17, 1938, in San Francisco, California, she was the daughter of Lucile Hansen and Winthrop Porter Watrous. Raised in Kentfield, California, Jane was the second of three daughters in a close-knit family.
Jane attended Ross Grammar School and graduated from Sir Francis Drake High School in 1956. She went on to the University of California, Berkeley, where she was a proud member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, earning a degree in Public Health in 1960.
On January 21, 1961, Jane married Sherman Rogers Hall III, beginning a loving and enduring partnership that lasted over 60 years until Sherman’s passing on December 10, 2022. Together, they raised two children, Sherman Rogers Hall IV and Carolyn Hall Tett. The family lived briefly in Kentfield, moved to Portland, Oregon, and later settled in Atherton, California, where they lived for more than 50 years. In 2019, Jane and Sherman relocated to the Fountaingrove area of Santa Rosa, California.
Jane and Sherman also maintained a second home in Glenbrook, Nevada, where they cherished their membership in the Glenbrook Club and enjoyed countless days golfing together. They spent many wonderful years in Healdsburg, California, a community Jane held dear from her childhood and where she continued to enjoy a strong connection.
Jane dedicated her life to her family and her community. She was a loving mother and actively participated in roles at Trinity Church in Menlo Park, the Junior League of Palo Alto, the Menlo Circus Club, and the Woodside Garden Club. She had a passion for tennis, golf, gardening, and travel, with Africa holding a special place in her heart as a favorite destination.
Jane is survived by her older sister, Susan Watrous Blair; her children, Carolyn Hall Tett (and her husband, Brent Price) of Charleston, Utah, and Sherman Rogers Hall IV (and his wife, Donna McAnally Hall) of Menlo Park, California; and her four grandchildren, Alexandra Tett Delaney (and her husband, Liam Delaney), Porter Lewis Tett, Sherman Rogers Hall V, and Lauren Elizabeth Hall. She was predeceased by her husband, Sherman Rogers Hall III, and her sister, Peggy Watrous Fitzpatrick.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jane’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association. A private service will be held to celebrate her remarkable life.
Jane’s grace, warmth, and unwavering love for her family and friends left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her legacy of love and devotion will be carried forward by those she touched.
