JoAnn Fonda was a long-time Mountain View resident who passed away at age 87 at her home on March 30th, 2023. JoAnn was an active volunteer throughout her years living in Mountain View.

JoAnn was born September 15,1935 in Ohio and graduated from Sharpsville, Pennsylvania High School. JoAnn attended 2 years of nursing school while working for a local dental office. While delivering dental products to other dental offices she first met Edwin Fonda. After six months of dating, they married on December 16,1955. They moved to Burbank, California where their first child Mark was born. Edwin had a job opportunity in Akron, Ohio where both Sheryl and Leslie were born. In 1960, they returned to California to settle in Mountain View to raise their three children.

In 1970, JoAnn began working as a Noon-Duty Assistant for the Mountain View School District and held several positions in the district before retiring in1990 as a Personnel Specialist. While her children were growing up, she was active in local activities including, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Post retirement, JoAnn was an avid volunteer for many local community causes. She served for many years as a Roadrunner volunteer, driving elderly community patients to their doctor’s appointments. She later served over 30 years as a volunteer for both El Camino Hospital and the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. She continued to volunteer for the El Camino Hospital right up to her death by doing Elderly Telecare calls for those who live alone at home. JoAnn was always concerned for others and their well-being.

JoAnn especially enjoyed traveling to Hawaii with friends and to Scotland later in her life. JoAnn’s hobbies included bowling with friends, caring for animals, dancing and painting flowers and hummingbirds.

JoAnn is survived by her husband, Edwin Fonda, son, Mark Fonda (Jane) and daughter, Sheryl Fonda, 9 grandchildren: Tim and Caren Hackl; Nick (SoHee) and Marilyn Fonda; David, Mathew and Amy Jipp, and Melanie (Steve) Stollman; and Rebecca (Jonathan) Collegio. JoAnn is also survived by 6 great grandchildren. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents Henry Wilcox and Rosemary McKnight and her beloved daughter, Leslie Grammer.
