Lasting Memories

JoAnn Murray
Aug. 18, 1939-July 13, 2013
Palo Alto, California

JoAnn Murray passed away on July 13. Mrs. Murray was born and raised in Wisconsin. After attending the University of Wisconsin, Mrs. Murray moved to California where she met and married her husband and best friend, Roger Murray. She worked for many years for the Palo Alto Times. Mrs. Murray and her husband moved to downtown Palo Alto in 1980, where she owned and operated McMillan Coffee Company for 15 years. She leaves behind her adoring husband of 50 years and his 3 children. Mrs. Murray will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Joanne & I & two other Gamma Phi sisters lived in an apartment on Orchard Street in Madison the summer of 1959. Living in unsupervised housing was a new & exciting experience for us, one we managed with maturity (this was the 50s) & surprisingly excellent organization. We got along great and remembering Joanne, she was the sweetest one of all...easy-going, caring, sensitive & adaptable. It is not surprising she had a long happy marriage & led a productive life. I am pleased to learn she lived in sunny California as my home is in the heart of the polar vortex. I am saddened this time has come. The summer on Orchard Street doesn't seem so long ago. My deepest sympathy to her husband & others in her circle left behind. She will be missed. Barbara Johnson

Dear Roger, You do not grieve alone. All who knew her loved her. She was so special to me as I returned to New Holstein from an all boys boarding high school. As a 20 year old there is a very good chance I was in love with her. Based on the obit it seems she had a good life and that's all anyone can wish for a friend. God bless you.
