Lorraine Lee Morgan, beloved mother and dedicated educator, died Monday, July 11, 2011. She was born on Nov. 9, 1930, in St. Benedict, Penn., the daughter of the late Gust J. Lee and Melanie (Lacounte) Lee.

Lorraine earned a Bachelor of Science in Education, Master of Education in Elementary Education, and Doctor of Education from the University of Pittsburgh.

Lorraine began her career as an elementary school teacher in the mid-1950s. During the 1960s, she was a teaching fellow and demonstration teacher at Falk School, the University of Pittsburgh?s laboratory school. From 1966-1978, Lorraine was Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Education at Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Penn., where she developed an innovative teacher education program.

During this time, Lorraine served on the Boards of the Children's School at Carnegie Mellon University, the Carriage House at Chatham College, and Reading is Fundamental. After moving to California, Lorraine served as Director of Academic Programs for Human Biology at Stanford University from 1979-1993. She served on the Boards of the Arboretum Early Childhood Center and Bing Nursery School at Stanford University.

Later, Lorraine worked as an educational consultant for professional organizations including National Middle School Association, National Educational Service, and Quest International.

Lorraine is survived by her children, David Lee Morgan (and wife Cathy), Micki Morgan Caskey (and husband Ron), and Beverley Morgan Hartman (and husband Steve); and granddaughters, Katherine Lee Caskey, Melanie Taylor Hartman and Jessica Lee Hartman.
