Margaret Babineau Johnston
Aug. 22, 1933-Jan. 15, 2014
Atherton, California
Margaret Babineau Johnston from Atherton, California, passed away on January 15, 2014.
Margaret was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, on August 22, 1933, to Alfred Joseph Babineau and Alice Gladys Babineau.
After a brief time in Niagara Falls, she and her family moved to New Brunswick, Canada, where Margaret went to school and graduated from high school.
Margaret returned to Niagara Falls after school and lived there for several years before moving to Deep River in Quebec, where she worked at the Canadian Atomic Energy Commission.
Tiring of the cold in Canada, in 1960 Margaret immigrated to Sacramento, California. There she met and married Ted Yates Johnston (deceased 2010). Their only child, Pamela Louise, was born in 1962. They lived in Sacramento until 1969 when they moved to Menlo Park. Two years later they moved to Atherton.
Margaret worked for many years at the Employment Development Department in Palo Alto and San Mateo. After she retired from EDD, she became very involved with the Atherton-based social group, the Atherlons, serving as its president for two years.
She also participated in various bridge groups, book groups, wine groups, the recipe traders group, and other social enterprises.
The consummate entertainer, Margaret enjoyed time with friends and family and hosted many dinners, lunches, wine tastings, Oscar parties, and other celebrations at her Atherton home.
Margaret B. Johnston is survived by her daughter, Pamela Louise Johnston, of Pasadena, California.
