Michele Carl Rossi

Michele Carl "Mike" Rossi, a longtime Mountain View resident, died on Jan. 24. He was 89.
Rossi was born July 23, 1918 in Akron, Ohio to Angelo and Filomena Rossi. He was a distinguished war veteran of WWII and fought in Tunisia, Sicily and France. He was awarded the Purple Heart for near-fatal wounds received on the beach in Normandy, as well as four Bronze Stars, the American Defense Service Medal, E.A.M.E. Campaign Medals, and Service Arrowhead and Combat Infantryman Badges.
After the war, he married Margaret Mary Merlitti of Akron. She died in 1969.
Rossi owned and operated several businesses in the area, including Mike Rossi's Liquors. He was active in the Our Lady of the Rosary, Holy Cross and Saint Francis communities, and coached local Little League teams for many years.
He is survived by two brothers, Davis Rossi of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Paul Rossi of Redwood City; one sister, Vilma Merendino of Akron; five children, Noreen, Michael, Angelo, Margaret and Marianne; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
