Lasting Memories
Peter Edward Sylvester
Dec. 10, 1931-Nov. 22, 2013
Palo Alto, California
Peter Edward Sylvester, Jr., a 45-year resident of Palo Alto, died Nov. 22, 2013. Pete was born in San Francisco and grew up in King City, Calif. He received his bachelor's degree from Stanford University in 1953 and his Stanford MBA in 1955. He was development officer at Stanford from 1963 until retiring in 1993.
Pete was the patriarch of his family and is survived by his sister, Anne Sylvester Strickling and his brother John Sylvester, both of Palo Alto; his niece, Carey Gorgolinski, and her sons, Matthew and Jack of Redwood City; his niece, Jennifer Sylvester McNally of Wailea, Hawaii,; and his nephew, Peter Byron Sylvester of Emeryville.
Pete was a great lover of music, a cerebral wit, and a great fan of everything Stanford. He is sorely missed by us all.
I had the pleasure of working with Peter in the General Secretary's Office, and then the Office of Development, at Stanford for many years. A very cheerful colleague, and, as I recall, an avid swimmer. My regrets to his family. Henry Organ, Menlo Park, CA
Our condolences to Mr. Sylvester's family and friends. We valued Mr. Sylvester's longstanding friendship to our agency.
