Richard Henry O'Malley, 79, died July 28, 2006, of natural causes at his residence in Mountain View.
He was born Aug. 5, 1926, in Hartford, Conn. After his schooling, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy and later moved to Northern California, where he lived for the rest of his life. He taught mathematics at Capuchino High School in Millbrae for 30 years. He was an avid barbershop-quartet singer and initiated chapters in the Bay Area that are still thriving. Loved ones say they will miss his bright and ardent spirit, lively sense of humor, love of music, tolerance, fairness and sense of social justice.
He was preceded in death by his son Patrick O'Malley. He is survived by his wife, Meg O'Malley of Palo Alto; seven children, Kathleen McGill of Richmond, Michael O'Malley of Chico, Karen O'Malley of Vancouver, Wash., Eileen Hanna of Eugene, Ore., Kevin O'Malley of Sunnyvale, Timothy O'Malley of Sacramento, and Coleen Hueffed of Mazola, Mont.; a daughter-in-law, Marie Demers-O'Malley; and two stepchildren, Suzanne Reed of Scotts Valley and Brian Reed of Incline Village, Nev. He is also survived by three siblings, Patsy Meier of Locust Grove, Va., Peggy Bothner of Olean, N.Y., and Peter O'Malley of Charleston, S.C.; and nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one great-grandson.
