Lasting Memories
Sharon Dalton
May 20, 1946-Dec. 8, 2015
Menlo Park, California
Sharon Dalton was a lover of life, a life which she lived fully and without regret until she passed away peacefully December 8th, surrounded by family and supported by friends.
Sharon fought for many years battling ovarian cancer with a spirit that could not be broken, despite the odds. She promised to "ride this pony" as long as she could, a feat which she accomplished, spending her final years with her two grandchildren, family, and friends.
She traveled, shopped, enjoyed amazing meals around the world, and spent every minute showing her loved ones how much they meant to her.
For over thirty years she had an interior design business in Menlo Park, working with many interesting Silicon Valley clients and appearing in design magazines.
After moving to Menlo Park in the late 1970s, she was the president of the Menlo-Atherton Newcomers, meeting many fast friends there and through the local schools and PTA.
More than any of those accomplishments, though, she will be remembered as a great chef and entertainer, called the "Godmother of the neighborhood" by many. She never missed the opportunity to check in or send a thank you card, wouldn’t let you leave her house hungry, and certainly never missed a party.
She had a "CEO personality" and cut to the chase, somehow giving people constructive feedback in a way that felt more like a warm hug than criticism. She loved people, and spent every minute here on earth doing her best to enjoy life and make it more fun for those around her.
Sharon will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but her love and zest for life will live on in us all.
Special thanks to the Dr. Dwight Chen and Dr. Teresa Nauenberg of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, without whom Sharon would not have lived nearly as fully in her final years.
The family will be holding a celebration of life for close family and friends of Sharon in mid-January, and can be contacted directly for details. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, the Cancer Research Institute, or to a charity of your choice are all appreciated.
Sharon had a special fondness for Paris and visited over a dozen times, most recently late in 2014. To her we say "À bientôt," and thanks for all the memories.
