Lasting Memories
Stuart Brewster
Dec. 2, 1926-April 16, 2026
Palo Alto, California
Stuart Brewster, 99, of Palo Alto, California, passed away on April 16, 2026. A devoted father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, he is deeply missed. Stuart had an independent spirit, curious mind, wide-ranging interests, and a legendary fondness for puns.
Born in Danvers, Massachusetts, Stuart grew up at his mother’s family home, where, as a boy, spotting a rare Oregon Junco drew attention from birders across New England. He earned a history degree from Tufts University, and spent 40 years at Addison-Wesley Publishing Company. In 1964, he moved to Palo Alto and led the company’s Innovative Division.
Stuart enjoyed walks at the Baylands Nature Preserve, books, travel, photography, and jazz and was instrumental in the Palo Alto Jazz Alliance.
He is survived by daughters Andrea and Karen, son-in-law Seyed Alavi, and grandchild Naseem Alavi. He was predeceased by his wife, Renate.
Donations may be made to the Palo Alto Jazz Alliance.
