Lasting Memories

Veronica Reasoner
July 19, 2010-Nov. 20, 2011
Boulder, Colorado

Veronica Aherne Reasoner passed away on November 20, 2011 at just sixteen months and one day old. Her final days were spent surrounded by her family and friends she had touched in her special way throughout her short yet memorable life. Veronica enjoyed exploring this world, particularly the realm of music. She loved attending weekly Kindermusik classes with her mom, and nothing made her happier than when her family sang to her. With her dad and grandpas she particularly enjoyed hiking in the beautiful mountains of Colorado and Wyoming. Veronica was lucky to have many aunts, uncles, grandparents, great-grandparents, and dear friends nearby so she got to be quite the social butterfly. Veronica was involved in the Lafayette Public Library book babies, enjoyed going to the Wow Museum and had many friends in the New Mom's group from Good Samaritan Hospital. She loved to swim with her dad and was quick to smile and giggle. Sixteen months were not enough time for Veronica to share all the love in her heart. One of her nicknames was "Smiley" because she would share her impish grin with anyone and wave hello to passing strangers. Neighbors called her "Peaches" and her family called her "Peanut" and "Little V." There will never be a day that goes by that Erica and Doug will not think of their little girl. When you see them, know that sharing a remembrance will help to remind them that Veronica's memory lives on. Don't be afraid to mention that you are thinking of Veronica too. Veronica is survived by her loving parents, Doug and Erica Reasoner of Lafayette; Maternal great-grandparents Alan and Melinda Fitch of Woodside, Ca, grandparents Peg and Ron Bowles, and Alexander Henson; Paternal great-grandparents Augusta Hamburg, Jackie Reasoner, Bob Keefer and Alice Carol, grandparents Lisa Hamburg and Paul Keefer, and Marc and Julie Reasoner; all her Aunts and Uncles; Cousins Sean and Kristen Hobson, and Eric Tolonen. After 15 months of being happy and healthy, Veronica was diagnosed with Alpers disease, which is a genetically inherited, terminal illness that has no treatment and no cure. It occurs in a child who receives the gene from both parents. It is the family's hope that through public awareness and prenatal testing no other child or family will have to endure the same pain and sadness.

I am thinking of you and I am so sorry for your loss. I have you both in my prayers. I always loved watching Veronica in childcare at the Lafayette rec center. She was truly a beautiful girl.

I will miss our breakfast dates, and having to work for those beautiful smiles. I already miss her hugs, and the way visits from my little Smiley would brighten my day. I hope she's having a fantastic time in heaven, playing with her friend David and waiting (patiently) for the rest of her family to join her. I love you sweet girl.

Veronica, I miss seeing you and your bright eyes when Avery arrived to Treehouse. I imagine you both singing, dancing, playing on the ramps and mats, and sitting for snack time together at the tiniest tables ever known... Playing with finger paints and tasting the different colors. Swaying back and forth in music and crawling through tunnels in the sun. Always asking "what's that?" We sure do miss you, sweet, sweet girl!

Veronica's impish smile is firm in my memory. I remember her triumphant grin when she scaled our stairs for the first time. I remember how she would taunt me over tossing food off her high chair tray - the little rascal. But my favorite was her special way of waving bye-bye backwards so she could see herself do it. I miss you sweetie!

I will alway remember Veronica dancing at the wedding in her mother's arms.
