A man that live life to its fullest and had the ability to get you to do likewise. There is no way that this man can be missed because there is way too much to be remembered.
I had the honor of knowing him since birth for he was my father's best friend. I consider him one of my heroes, for I have been priviledged with the acquaintance of quite a few (veterans like my dad), but surely the second most loved one after my father. He shall be greatly missed and November 15 will never be the same to me again - a phone call will no longer be made.
Aldo and my Dad graduated the same year from the Brazilian Air Force academy. I was still a kid when my Dad introduced me to Aldo who was recovering form a glider accident in the Air Force hospital in Rio de Janeiro. Years later, when I was at Stanford working for my masters, I realized how outstanding he was as a scientist, a researcher and a professor.
I met Aldo at my first masters swimming meet, held at UC Berkeley, in spring, 1983. He was warm, friendly and kind, just as he was at swim meets for many years to follow. I am now in my 90s, and in my 33rd year of masters swimming, thanks partly to Aldo da Rosa.
