Darrell lived a life of fierce independence that could not have been possible given the collective nature of his disabilities without the life-long devotion of ‘Mother’ Costello and this wife, Alba, in addition to a host of other family and community members who were drawn to Darrell by this charm, eternal optimism, and stubborn tenacity--a trait either learned or inherited from our father. Yet, with all respect do to our father’s exploits as a former POW, I have often thought that my brother, Darrell, was the true warrior in the family.
