I hadn’t known Dick as long as some of the others who have visited this Memorial page site. And I don’t have any photos to share. But I can tell you that I enjoyed Dick immensely. I enjoyed his hospitality, his effervescence, his joy of life. Far less important, but still memorable, I enjoyed Dick’s sharing of a good bottle of single malt scotch. Rest in peace, Dick Dundas. You were a joy for all of us who had the opportunity and good fortune to know you. Alan Davis
We have been neighbors and friends of Dick and Mary Lynn Dundas for several decades and so, we have many memories of being together at birthday celebrations, concerts, picnics at Stanford, wineries and more, especially when we were together with our group of ten. We are grieved by his recent passing. The association with Stanford has been momentous for Dick having been an engineering alumnus, a life long fan of Stanford sports and, in retirement, as a docent at the Arrillaga Sports Center which enabled him to further continue his love of being on the campus. It has been as well for Al, also an engineering alumnus and also a 17 year employee at Stanford. We moved from Palo Alto 11 years ago but have been aware that Stanford had since been going through a major expansion of the campus. During a visit about a year ago, Dick, still managing fairly well with his illness, took Al on an extended narrated tour of the campus. Al did the driving but with all of the recent construction it had become easier than ever to get lost. Even though Dick's eyes were failing him he had such an entrenched familiarity with the silhouettes of the legacy buildings that he knew exactly where we were at each turn and stop. This day remains as a special memory for Al. Mary Lynn and Anne took in the annual Gamble Garden tour on this same day, special for them having done this many times before. Ever insightful for Anne were the philosophical conversations with Dick, especially on religion. Dick and Al sharing wee drams of single malt Scotch was always a highlight.
